Happy Wednesday!~
Here is part 2 of the cleanser vs. eyeliner pencil (Make Up For Ever Aqua Waterproof Eyeliner) challenge. If you want to check out part 1 of the cleanser challenge, click here. Also, be sure to scroll all the way down to see my comparison of all 6 cleansers and my overall conclusion.
The 3 brands I tested today are:
1. Neutrogena: Deep Clean Cream Cleanser
2. Philosophy: purity made simple
3. Murad: Clarifying Cleanser
During: I rubbed lightly in a circular motion as I normally would on my face.
After: Looks like these cleansers are not made for makeup removal <shrug>. A separate makeup remover is definitely a must.
Here’s a more detailed review of the 3 cleansers.
1. Neutrogena: Deep Clean Cream Cleanser ($5.99 for 7 oz= $0.86 per oz) : Drugstore.com | Target
- cream consistency
- pleasant smell
- apply to wet face and rinse off with water
- leaves skin feeling clean but not dry
- recommended for dry, sensitive, or acne prone skin
2. Philosophy: one-step facial cleanser ($32 for 16 oz= $2.00 per oz) : Sephora | Nordstrom
- lotion consistency
- did not like the smell. yuck.
- apply to wet face and rinse off with water
- face felt washed (couldn’t focus cause of the smell)
- probably wouldn’t recommend due to smell
3. Murad: Clarifying Cleanser ($26 for 6.75 oz= $3.85 per oz): Sephora | Ulta
- watery gel consistency
- smells like medicine
- apply to wet face and rinse off with water
- foaming cleanser left face feeling clean
- recommended for acne prone skin, but wish it had a better smell.
Just for fun.. let’s do some comparisons of all 6 cleansers!~
Order of cost per ounce ($ to $$$):
1. Neutrogena: Deep Clean Cream Cleanser ($5.99 for 7 oz= $0.86 per oz)
2. Philosophy: one-step facial cleanser ($32 for 16 oz= $2.00 per oz)
3. Ole Henriksen: apricot cleansing lotion ($30 for 14 oz= $2.14 per oz)
4. Murad: Clarifying Cleanser ($26 for 6.75 oz= $3.85 per oz)
5. bliss: clog dissolving cleansing milk ($28 for 6.7 oz:= $4.17 per oz)
6. fresh: soy face cleanser ($15 for 1.7 oz= $8.82 per oz)
Order of effectiveness in removing eyeliner (great to blah):
1. fresh: soy face cleanser – got almost all the eyeliner off! great!
2. Ole Henriksen: apricot cleansing lotion – almost but not quite
3. (tie) Philosophy: one-step facial cleanser – eh
3. (tie) Murad: Clarifying Cleanser- eh
3. (tie) bliss: clog dissolving cleansing milk – eh. was secretly rooting for this one.
4. Neutrogena: Deep Clean Cream Cleanser – blah
Order of smell (yum to yuck)
1. bliss: clog dissolving cleansing milk – smells like a spa. yum.
2. Ole Henriksen: apricot cleansing lotion- subtle apricot smell
3. Neutrogena: Deep Clean Cream Cleanser- smells clean
4. Murad: Clarifying Cleanser- reminds me of medicine
5. Philosophy: one-step facial cleanser- didn’t like the smell at all
6. fresh: soy face cleanser- yuck. think it should smell better since fresh makes such amazing smelling products.
Conclusion:
I’ll probably continue to use Neutrogena and bliss in the mornings. I like these two because they smell good. Yes, smell is a big factor for me. Doesn’t have to smell good, but cannot smell bad!
I like Neutrogena cause it’s a cream cleanser that doesn’t dry my face out, but leaves it feeling clean and fresh. The cheap price tag is also a big plus.
I like bliss because it leaves my skin really feels supple. Great for winter when I need that extra moisture.
For the evenings, I’ll probably use these 2 coupled with a makeup remover (if I wear makeup that day)… So the search continues to find an amazing cleanser that really can do it all in one step!~
Stay pretty friends. xo

I just switched to the MURAD cleanser and it is quite lovely. I use it in combination with a face brush, but only use MURAD at night. During the day I use Olay cleanser. This combination does really well for my oily acne prone sensitive skin!
