I decided to test 3 new cleansers I purchased this past month. Take a look at which one was able to remove Make Up For Ever Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil without the help of a separate eye makeup remover.
The 3 brands I tested are:
1. Bliss : clog dissolving cleansing milk
2. Ole Henriksen: apricot cleansing lotion
3. fresh: soy face cleanser
I drew a line with my Make Up For Ever Eyeliner and rubbed the 3 cleansers lightly onto my skin as I normally would on my face.
After: Looks like fresh’s soy face cleanser removed the eyeliner the best!
Here’s a more detailed review of the 3 cleansers.
1. bliss: clog dissolving cleansing milk ($28 for 6.7 oz:= 4.17 per oz) : Sephora | Ulta | Nordstrom | Bloomingdale’s
- milky consistency
- pleasant smell
- leaves skin feeling clean but supple
- apply to dry or wet face and rinse off with water
- can be used as a gentle exfoliating mask
- recommend for dry/sensitive skin
2. Ole Henriksen: apricot cleansing lotion ($30 for 14 oz= $2.14 per oz): Bloom.com | BeautyBar.com
- lotion consistency
- super subtle smell
- apply to dry face and rinse off with water or wet sponge/wash cloth
- didn’t feel squeaky clean after using this cleanser
- recommend for very dry skin
3. fresh: soy face cleanser ($38 for 5.1 oz= $7.45 per oz): Sephora | Neiman Marcus | Beauty.com
- watery gel consistency
- not a fan of the smell
- apply to wet/damp face and rinse off with water
- cleans skin well but super gentle
- recommend for dry/sensitive skin, but wish it was fragrance free or had a better smell
Hope this has been helpful in selecting a cleanser! Here’s Part II of this Waterproof Eyeliner vs. Cleanser Challenge!

Hi thanks for the review!
I’ve been looking into buying the Bliss cleanser (for removing clogs) but I wasn’t aware that it was supposed to remove makeup as well. Is it labelled as this?
Also, how does it work for removing clogs?

Thanks for the comment Elle.
The exfoliating enzymes in this cleanser is what dissolves the dirt and dead skin. They claim that it dissolves makeup too… but I think it doesn’t apply to waterproof makeup. The eyeliner I used in my test was waterproof and really smudgeproof.
Hope this helps!~ Please visit again and look forward to your questions!~

try the shu uemura cleansing oil. that’s my favorite. it leaves your skin really clean but also soft. i’m not sure how it’ll match up against these cleansers though…

Great. I’ll try it out. I haven’t tried any cleansing oils, but am looking forward to it~ Maybe I’ll compare it to Bobbi Brown’s cleansing oil!
